Board Members

Sacha Adam   Senior Product Manager at Intuit Inc, makers of software products such as TurboTax. Earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry at Bristol University, then later an MBA from Duke University. Non-profit work includes assisting infirm adults in the UK, fund raising for UNESCO in Japan, and mentoring youths from Cabrini Green in Chicago. An avid tennis player in high school, he decided to try squash when he moved to San Diego in 2004, joining San Diego Squash, and eventually becoming passionate about and involved in the mission and works of AYA, despite the regular drubbing AYA’s youths hand to him on the court.

Peter Fromen   Head of Investor Relations at Illumina, Inc., which manufactures and markets integrated systems for the analysis of genetic variation and biological function. He received his B.A. in history from Kenyon College and M.B.A. from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Peter has spent much of his career in the life sciences tools industry. Prior to joining Illumina, he was the Director of Investor Relations at Applied Biosystem, has held finance and investor relations roles at Agilent Technologies, and was an equity research anaylst and associate portfolio manager at Howard Capital Management.

Marsha Janger   B.A.B.S. University of California, Berkeley. Retired President and CEO of PowerWorks International, an executive search firm in the Independent Energy Industry. Marsha has served as a consultant to Surf City Squash and liaison for its cultural events and community service projects. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors of the Agency for Jewish Education, Jewish Women’s Foundation of San Diego, and Federation of Jewish Women of San Diego. In the spring in 2010, Marsha initiated, organized and participated in a medical mission to Cuba. Marsha worked in Kenya in the summer of 2010 under the auspices of Global Volunteer Network, helping HIV positive woman,“Women Against Stigma” (WAS), establish a jewelry enterprise in Nairobi. She has also worked with Voices for Children in marketing and volunteer development. Marsha is an active participant at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UCSD where she attends classes, has served on the Curriculum Committee, and has produced, directed and performed in a number of their theatrical productions.

Henry Manice   Product developer in San Diego at Alphatec Spine, an international medical device company that designs, manufactures, and markets products for spine surgery. Henry grew up in Boston and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2009 where he majored in Human and Organizational Development with a focus on International Leadership and Development. While in college, he co-founded a clothing company in Uganda, Enjuba.com, and developed Enjuba’s social entrepreneurship class in a Ugandan secondary school. He started playing squash in high school at Phillips Academy Andover and helped grow Vanderbilt’s squash program as co-captain and president from an informal group of players into a nationally ranked team that travels the country to play more than fifteen matches a year. He currently volunteers as a business plan reviewer, judge, and fundraiser for The William James Foundation, a Washington D.C. based organization that supports entrepreneurs starting for-profit companies that have social and environmental goals.

Paul Moses   An attorney with offices in Irvine, California who specializes in bankruptcy and mediation. A graduate of Bowdoin College and the New England School of Law. He is a member of the Bankruptcy Mediation Panel for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and has served as a columnist on bankruptcy matters for The Orange County Register. He has served as the head coach of women’s squash at Harvard University, head coach of women’s squash and tennis at Brown University, and president of the Orange County Squash Racquets Association. He currently serves on the Leadership Council of OxfamAmerica and the Executive Director’s Leadership Council of Amnesty International.

Blair Sadler [Treasurer]   President Emeritus of the Rady’s Children’s Hospital and Health Center in San Diego after serving as President and CEO from 1980-2006. Received his B.A. from Amherst College where he played both squash and tennis, and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a faculty member at the UCSD Schools of Medicine and Management and is a Senior Fellow at the Insititute for Healthcare Improvement. He is currently on the board of directors of the Hastings Center for Bioethics and Public Policy and serves as the Treasurer of U.S. Squash where he is also a member of the Executive Committee. He has previously served as a medical-legal specialist for the National Institute of Health, as Assistant Vice President at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as Vice President and Director of the hospitals and clinics at Scripss Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, and on the US-Mexico Border Health Commission.

Richard Shapiro   B.A. Tufts University, Magna cum Laude, Ph.D. Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver. Returned to Tufts after receiving doctorate to teach and coach. Started the collegiate Squash program, both men and women, and within six years the men’s squash team had a number 5 national ranking. Moved to San Diego entering the business world and became the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a food manufacturing company. Played competitive squash for 30 years, representing United States in international competition. Involved with numerous educational, community, and social service programs as well as long-term involvement with SquashBusters.
